A Mouthful of Air: Language, Languages...Especially English

This book gets better and better, a vast linguistic goldmine. I'm only just less than one quarter of the way through, there are so many captivating references, authors and research that it leads to."
In The Electric Mist - Movie Review

Based on the book: In the Electric Mist With The Confedarate Dead - by James Lee Burke

I just saw 'In The Electric Mist' with Tommy Lee Jones, based on the book 'In The Electric Mist With The Confederate Dead' (which I thought was pretty good).

The movie was less than impressive, unconvincing actors, and a plot which is hard to love.

However, James Lee Burke is a great writer in my opinion, as he invokes the feeling of the time. Like Ray Bradbury covered the memory-sweet childhood of the

Geoengineering, spray on clouds and stratospheric particle pumping
24 October 2008 - 09:54

Some climate experts are now willing to consider schemes for partly shielding the planet from the sun's rays, such as putting sulfer dioxide in the stratosphere to scatter sunlight; using 1,500 ships, each spraying eight gallons of sea water a second to whiten existing marine clouds (and reflect more light); and a space-based sunshade at L1, the inner Lagrangian point, using solar sails with tiny mirrors to deflect light.

Geoengineering schemes fall into two categories, corresponding to the

Brilliant Russian film! The visuals are so intriguingly graphic that you dont have to understand the language, might be interesting with english subtitles though.

I havent seen a horror movie as well shot in awhile, if ever, it takes awhile to get the plot - but I highly recommend it.

Vampires, ancient light and dark powers, witches, and a fucked up owl/shapeshifter fight over a child. Everyone is bloody, cant tell the good from the bad. Xcept

Spoof; Cult stars, guns, vampritic tendancies, sex, funerals, black humour, violence, coffee, and a surreal Italian Western.
Approximating life;  Annoying at times but entertaining meanwhile, however the ending is dutifully dead.
Starring; The Pogues, Elvis Costello, Courtney Love, Dennis Hopper, among others.
The place; The set of 1969's Charles Bronson movie, Savage Cowboys.

Good story set during the hurricane.

The Tin Roof Blowdown

From Bookmarks Magazine
Ever since Hurricane Katrina ravaged southern Louisiana in August 2005, James Lee Burke's fans have been waiting for this book, and Burke does not disappoint.

Outraged and eloquent, the two-time Edgar Award-winner delivers a gut-wrenching portrayal of the storm's ferocity and devastating aftermath, venting through Robicheaux his frustration at the human incompetence and greed that magnified nature's destructive fury.

His evocative,

Attack of hope

Only now do we see how each crossroads
was bound to throw up not only a cross
but a couple of gadabouts with goads,
a couple of gadabouts at a loss.

as to why they were at the beck and call
of some old crock soaring above the culch
of a kitchen midden at evenfall,
of some old crock roaring across the gulch

as a hanged man roars out to a hanged man.
Now bucket nods to bucket of the span
of an ash yoke, or something of that ilk ...

Now one hanged man kicks at the end of his

Reminds me of New Orleans

You said, "I will go to another land, I will go to another sea.
Another city will be found, better than this.
Every effort of mine is condemned by fate;
and my heart is -- like a corpse -- buried.
How long in this wasteland will my mind remain.
Wherever I turn my eyes, wherever I may look
I see the black ruins of my life here,
where I spent so many years, and ruined and wasted."

New lands you will not find, you will not find other seas.
The city will follow you. You will roam

And so the story goes they wore the clothes
They said the things to make it seem improbable
The whale of a lie like they hope it was
And the goodmen tomorrow
Had their feet in the wallow
And their heads of brawn were nicer shorn
And how they bought their positions with saccharin and trust
And the world was asleep to our latent fuss
Sighing, the swirl through the streets
Like the crust of the sun
The bewlay brothers
In our wings that bark

Draws you in very nicely at the beginning, very colorful and imaginary as childhood often seems in hindsight, dark and troubled as the character emerges, though I think they tried too hard to make him seem crazier than he needed to be at the climax.

I liked the graphic detective novel style imagery they used in the storyline and Harry Greyson Williams composed some great Joy Division-like music for the the blood sex scenes.

Interesting point of view, though I

I enjoyed this movie immensely, the visuals are sharp and the contrast is great. The narration is cool and simple, perfectly graphic.

The bloodshed is too surreal to be felt and the choreography is precise in this exquisite dance of death.

King Leonidas (Gerald Butler) is a hero of the highest order, his army is sexy and his deadly queen smolders. Lots of fun to watch, well shot and full of characters.

The ugly priests provide the gross-out factor,

La Môme

Also known as "La vie en rose", "Edith Piaf", "The Passionate Life of Edith Piaf" and "The Untitled Edith Piaf Project"

Flashback type storyline outlining the songstress' tragic background, her fathers repeated orphaning type traveling, her substance abuse and lonely death. Edith Piaf, (the sparrow)is played by Marion Cotillard.

Kind of romantic in its portrait of turn of the century France, it was well worth the watch even though I couldn't follow the dialog

Kind of funny

Looking ahead to life after leaving the White House, Bush said he might follow President Clinton's lead and produce a memoir.

"I'm thinking of something really fun and creative for mine," he said. "You know, maybe a pop-up book."

28 Mar 2007- Blood Diamond Review
16 November 2007 - 16:16

"Blood Diamond" was a well spent couple of hours, DiCaprio was convincing in his role as a Rhodesian "soldier of fortune" and of course theres the well meaning reporter played by Jennifer Connelly.

Quite realistic in its cruelty and bloodshed, it could be classified as fairly disturbing. Djimon Hounsou plays the father and husband of a lost family who alone knows the whereabouts of a stone that will give each of them what they want.

Aaaaanyway, "The Departed" was an intriguing 2 and a half hours I can't say I wasted, just got back.
Too bad they had to kill off the DiCaprio character. Heh heh.
I thought some of the swearing was a bit infantile, but I guess it was Boston.
Just graphic enough to be impressive without leaning too heavily on the gore. I recommend it to anyone with good taste in movies.

This is good...

Disturbing, ingenius, advanced, chilling, thoughtful and memorable look into the dark southern valley people and hellraising fervour in whatever the fuck it is they believe. Smart book by the singer. It was surprising and did I mention disturbing?...

There is a bit of the unknown in every last leaf of expetancy, when one meets it with a glimmer of hope. The sound realisation that nothing begins as it ends, and the somewhat stable assurancy that it will not continue as planned. And thus begins the journey ino the redundancy that exfoliates our expectations. Perceptions perhaps, that are best left avoided....at all costs.

Then it's gone, the end of the string whips around the corner.

There is a little place where  ideas bloom wildly, that is where the plans lie in wait. However there are other things blooming wildly there too, also waiting.  Not sure if I want to return so soon.
